Caroline Oates

Caroline has been creative and connected to the arts all her life.
She is inspired by her beautiful surroundings in the Yorkshire Dales, travels around the rich diversity of the British Isles and further afield to Europe. Both Scotland and Cornwall have a special place in her heart.
She has studied art mainly being self-taught and with various short courses including The St Ives School of Painting.
Collage is often a feature which she uses to embellish her work. Her subjects for still life include objects like jugs and vases from around her home, beach finds or wild flowers. Her work is diverse from landscape and wildlife to abstract and Illustration. She likes to work from memory and prefers an instinctive response to a subject.
For many years Caroline was a gallery owner so has been inspired by other artists work both in the local area and around the country and says she is always amazed at the skill and talent shown, especially by printmakers and craft makers.
She enjoys looking at art that evokes feeling and this is obvious from the work that she creates. Some of her favourite painters include Laura Knight, David Hockney, Van Gogh, Mary Fedden, Henri Matisse, Pierre Bonnard, Elizabeth Blackadder and Winifred Nicholson.
